Long Range with Fritz Precision and Costa Ludus Course Description

Having an experienced long-range shooting teacher is crucial for learning the fundamentals of the sport. An experienced instructor will not only be able to teach you the proper techniques and equipment needed for long-range shooting, but also provide you with the guidance and feedback necessary for you to succeed and improve. They will be able to identify and correct any bad habits or misconceptions you may have about the sport and help you develop the skills needed to become a proficient long-range shooter. Furthermore, an experienced instructor can provide expert advice on the best equipment to use and how to maintain it. CLASS IS CAPPED to 8 shooters.

Subjects Covered

From safety to fundamentals.

1. Classroom, where we will break down the mechanics of long-range shooting and components.

2. A handbook containing all covered topics will be provided.

3.    Set up rifle systems for each shooter.

4.    Zero rifles. Capture muzzle velocities and input data into ballistic applications.100-yard target exercises.  This part is fun and challenging.

5.   Calibrate drag curve (we’ll go over that)

6.   Shoot mid to long-range steel targets as time allows.

7.   Ring steel targets ranging from 400 to 1500 yards.

8.   Participate in multiple shooting exercises that utilize and summarize the skills acquired in the course.  This is where all the dots connect, and knowledge acquired is practiced and perfected.

9.   Shots will be made in the prone position, standing, kneeling, and low kneeling while utilizing a tripod, natural, and man-made barricades.

Equipment List

Students provide their own ammo: a minimum of 450 rounds of precision ammo. Hardware –  A functional and practical precision rifle chambered in 308, 6 creed, or higher caliber WITH SUPPRESSOR. You can also bring Magnum calibers or SPRs. Most people wouldn’t want to shoot Magnums 3 days in row, but you’re more than welcome. Distances are currently out to 1500 yards. We do have Back up guns in 6.5 creed, 308, 300 PRC. If available, and you’re running a unique caliber a spare weapon system is also an excellent idea.

Mil scopes are recommended, however if you have MOA please don’t forget your manual.

• Note pad, and pen/pencil
• A cleaning kit and tools that are compatible with the weapon system(s) in question is also a must.
• A minimum of 3 working magazines
• Spotting scopes (optional)
• Kestrel (optional) we have a few student kestrels
• Shooting bags (optional)
• Laser Range finders (optional)
• Clothing suited to strenuous activity as well as being seasonally appropriate
• Rain gear / cold weather gear (seasonal)
• Ear pro (electronic preferred) / Eye pro
• Baseball style hat recommended
• Tools that work on your weapon
• Weapons lube
• Water hydrating device
• Gloves (optional)
• An open mind

Important Course & Location Information

Costa Ludus will be hosting this course at a range 30 minutes outside of Lewiston, ID.

Directions will be provided after registration is completed.

Course Hours:  8AM start class; 4:30PM finish class at the range.

Meals: Lunch will be provided on the range. (Bring snacks, water, sodas, coffee, etc.) Thirty minutes will be taken on the property for lunch. (**There is not enough time to go off property and back for lunch.)

Recommend bringing your own food if you have dietary restrictions or preferences- no discounts provided.

Ammunition limitations: None. **Suppressed Weapons Only. Ask if a suppressor is needed; we may be able to provide one.
